Log Cabin is easily the most highly-regarded restaurants in Sagada. It’s located just a little up hill relative to the bus terminal – right in front of Strawberry Cafe. This establishment is best known for their Saturday night buffet featuring the cooking of French-native (and now adopted son of Sagada) Chef Aklay. The menu always changes because it is highly dependent on what inspires the chef during the weekend market. The food has always been impeccable and the desserts are plated and prepared to absolute perfection.

During other nights, customers may sample the great food from the Log Cabin menu Meals start at around 150 and go to as high as around 280 per plate. It’s a bit pricy for a plate of food up in Sagada but it’s really good. They are also one of the few establishments with a decent selection of wines. You have to place your order before 3PM to be entertained for the dinner service.

To book your seats for the Saturday buffet, call or text +639205200463.

This is kape alamid or civet cat coffee. You’re probably wondering why in the world a cat would have something to do with the making of coffee but if you let your imagination really run wild, you would probably figure out that the coffee is actually made from the droppings of the alamid. The digestive process supposedly gives the resulting coffee a very distinct taste.

I tried kape alamid at Bana’s Cafe last year and I think it’s the only establishment in town that has a wide assortment of coffee products – truly deserving of its self-declared title of cafe. It had a very mild flavor – almost like chocolate with a faint hint of caramel at the end. It was quite an expensive cup of coffee (150 pesos ~ 3 USD) for a place like Sagada but you have to try these things at least once, right?

If you don’t feel like drinking coffee derived from something that came out of the rear end of a small animal, you could always go for their other brews. The arabica and robusta on the menu are pretty good and they do pack a punch.

The Sagada Genuine Guides Association or SaGGAs would be once again hosting a year end bonfire party on December 28. The guides hosted an awesome feast last year and I definitely have a lot of photos that would never be posted on Facebook from that night. As you can see on the poster, the cost of the ticket is 250 pesos – inclusive of transportation to the bonfire site, dinner, drinks and the entertainment (cultural presentation) for the night. Expect to dance around the fire til midnight!

This should be fun! Please contact 09295569533 or email sagadagenuineguides@gmail.com for any inquiries.

Further proving that Sagada offers treats that may be considered novel elsewhere in the country, Sagada Lemon Pie House surprises unsuspecting tourists with its fare of unconventional desserts and pastries. The restaurant is owned by Joseph and Katrina Daoas and the original recipe was actually from Joseph’s mother. After years of perfecting the recipe, countless orders from places far and wide, the couple decided to open their own restaurant to further showcase their unique product.

Sagada has an undeniably bohemian feel about it but the Lemon Pie House further reinforces this by opening its doors to the town’s local musicians and artists. The restaurant is a few minutes’ walk from the town center – it’s all down hill so don’t worry.

The prices are as follows:

Lemon Pies: P18.00/slice – P140.00/pan

Egg Pies: P20.00/slice – P150.00/pan

Brewed Coffee: P20.00/cup

Mountain Tea: P15.00/cup

Sagada Lemon Pie House is also one of the few Sagada establishments with their own website. Visit their page and view the neat video feature that Wencel Angeles of Biyaheng Pinoy made.

A visit to Sagada will not be complete without having a serving of yoghurt from where else – Yoghurt House! This place has long been a tourist-favorite mainly due to its great bohemian ambiance and of course, large servings of great tasting food.

Yoghurt House is just about a five-minute walk downhill from the town hall and bus station. They open at 7am and has a very filling and inviting breakfast menu that could definitely prepare you for the activities you have planned for the rest of the day.

Yoghurt House’s interiors are cozy and despite its small size, the space could still accommodate twenty-five people. Having that many people in such a packed area does make the place conducive for talking to other travelers and backpackers. Many people have made friends, split tour fees and even switched hotels thanks to people they’ve met through eating at Yoghurt House.

Visit Sagada recommends the Hiker’s Delight from the breakfast menu. It’s a crepe with a banana smothered with a generous amount of home-made yoghurt topped with strawberry preserves. It also comes with a piece of toast, two eggs cooked to your liking and coffee or tea. Yoghurt House serves breakfast til 10 AM. The meal might be a bit steep at 140 Php (~3.50 USD) but it’s very much worth it.

Alfred’s Cabin greets its visitors with very warm tones of varnished wood and carvings. Featured under the soft glow of overhead lamps, the wood certainly makes this restaurant among the coziest eating places in Sagada.

As for the food, Alfred’s Cabin definitely hits the spot for the hungry traveler. I highly recommend the buttered chicken and sweet and sour pork. The buttered chicken is a delectable dish that utilizes a sauce similar to that used in buffalo wings. The result is a scrumptious and finger-licking entree.

A meal with rice, a meat or vegetable dish and drink would set you back about 150 php (about US$3.50 ). Since dishes are not cooked before hand, serving times may take up to 10-15minutes.
