The Sagada Bonfire And The Sagada Hymn

A massive bonfire was hosted and organized by the well-respected Sagada Genuine Guides Association last December 28. Gareth (the rockstar tour guide himself) took many photos and the images could be seen on their Multiply and Blogspot site. The atmosphere is just electric. Night life isn’t a phrase that one would usually relate with Sagada but this bonfire was an absolute party! Nevermind that it ended rather early for most people (they still have trekking to do!) but attending it sure was a blast.

It was a night filled with great food, great music, snippets of Sagada and Mountain Province culture as well dancing around the fire. The great Kiltepan viewpoint was a perfect venue for that fog-riddled event. It was just an amazing experience that was perfect for a once-a-year event. I’m sure the over 200 people who showed up would agree.

And yes, as luck would have it – I was the first one to sign up for the bonfire. hehe.

I was quite embarrassed to be unaware of the existence of a Sagada hymn. It was sung towards the end of the party and luckily, there’s Globe 3G (I KNOW!) at Kiltepan.

Beyond those travelled hills of the North
Lies my home all laden with pines
Amidst the soft and silken touch
Of morning mist I lay my prayers before thy shrine
My thanks to Thee my love dressed in green
My paradise unforseen
My thanks to Thee who spawned my life
Sagada, Sagada you’ll always be mine

With you I believe
In my life I can live
With you I will share
What I have without care

Isnan ad-adawi ay bilbilig
Isdi nan i-itaw tet-ewa
Kaneg isnan kankanaenda ay Shangrila
Menlowalowak ken sik-a
Madaydayaw ka’y Ili, natalna
Umeyak ay m’id egyat na
Salamat ‘snan Diyos ay nanapo
‘Snan Sagada, Sagada kokowak enggana

Ken sik-a mamatiyak
Isnan biag matagowak
Ken sik-a makibingayak
M’id balina isnan kowak
(Repeat first stanza)

  6. you!!!! food at yoghurt house is excellent but the service definitely sucks!!! especially with that chubby sour-faced waitress/server who obviously hates doing her job. if she does not want to do her job, fine, pero huwag niyang idamay the people who just wants to enjoy the natural beauty of sagada and enjoy its food and hospitality, for which they are willing to pay good money. i would think that people who go to sagada don’t ask for much except a modicum of civility and polite service. when we asked chubs what was the best seller in the menu. she smirked, rolled her eyes, and haughtily said, lahat naman diyan bestseller. obviously a lie. i then jokingly and rhetorically asked, anong bestseller among the bestsellers? and proceeded to order without waiting for another smirk and smart alecky yet idiotic answer. all this we took in stride, attributing fatigue and whole day’s work to the attitude. however, what i find galling is this – rumors have it that the service differs when they deal not with filipinos but foreign nationals. colonial mentality and discrimination at their worst, filipinos being discriminated against in their own country and natural resource! yoghurt house, you better shape up before we boycott

  7. I agree… i like what yoghurt house is offering except for the service… we just arrived from sagada and experienced the rudeness of the yoghurt house server… we’re a native of sagada but we grew up here in baguio and it’s frustrating for us to hear and experience how servers of YOGHURT HOUSE treat their visitors or customers… to the owner of this estabishment please tell your servers not to be rude and train them to be hospitable… NU SINU MAN NAN AKIN KUKWA SI-NAN YOGHURT HOUSE KADYA PLEASE BAGBAGGAAN YU NAN KAKADWA YU TAY KABABBIN SINAN BISITA, DAT ISNAN IMAGE TAKO AY ISAGADA.. SALASALAMAT… Sapay kuma ta mabasa u na… wada met samet wifi u is-sa…

  8. The Amyloidosis Foundation estimates that approximately 3,000 people are diagnosed with amyloidosis each year in North America and that blood cancers overall have increased more than 40% in the last decade.
