The Sagada Budget Matrix

We’ve been noticing a lot of questions regarding how much money is needed to tour Sagada so we’ll do another budget entry.

It’s simple math.

Let’s start with the things that you can do absolutely nothing about – you would really have to pay this amount.

Getting There

The fare going to Sagada regardless of where you go – may it be via Baguio, Bontoc or Banaue is more or less the same. The cost will be running up close to 1500 php (37 USD).

Accomodations

Most inns would charge 200-250 php per person per night. Residential Lodge follows this rate even if it’s peak season.

Food

Restaurant food in Sagada could be surprisingly expensive – comparable to Manila prices. The quality of the
food and the serving size is great, but it could very well cramp your budget if you choose to eat out every single time.

Each meal is roughly 100-160 php (2.50-4 USD) depending on the restaurant. You can always buy canned goods and fresh produce from the grocery and public market though. This would probably cut costs to about 60 pesos per meal. There are some inns like Residential Lodge that allow their guests to cook for free.

Tours

The cave connection will set you back 400php (9 USD). All the other tours are quite affordable provided that you go with an optimum number of people. For more  information regarding optimal numbers, visit the page on Sagada tours. A thousand pesos should be enough to cover for all tours.

COMPUTATION:
PLAN A
The “Living Like A King” Option
FARE (1500) + Accommodation (200 X number of days) + Restaurant Food ( 450 X number of days ) + Tours (1000)

PLAN B
Budget mode
FARE (1500) + Accommodation (200Xnumber of days) + DIY food (180 X number of days) + Tours (1000)

Easy Guide:
3D/2N – (A) 3800 (B) 3300
4D/3N – (A) 4450 (B) 3700
5D/3N – (A) 5100 (B) 4100

I hope that helped. :)

  2. We went to Sagada last year (around May). There are 7 of us. We had a budget of P3000/pax. IT WORKED! We even had change to buy sagada shirts. :D

The only needed to cooked our own breakfast. Other than that, eat-out! Try going to Haddeku’s (near Tita Mary’s place) and Francis Cafe (near the terminal). These are relatively cheaper (by P10-P20) than Masferre’s and Yoghurt House, but the servings are B-I-G!!:)

btw, we plan on going back this May. which reminds me, i need to text Tita Mary. :D

I’ve read everything I need to know so as to be prepared for a promising trip. However, I haven’t read any post regarding the most essential things to bring in Sagada. Is there any?

    For Residential Lodge, it’s 200 / 250 per person. :)

  16. i think there’s something we need to adjust in the fare matrix…you will need to allocate budget for the PINIKPIKAN (P1200 in Ohlabinan where we ate, but only P800 with Tita Mary’s in the Residential Lodge). Expensive but weeeelll worth it!

  20. been to sagada twice already, and i’ve loved every minute i was there, and am planning to go back come october with my friends. there is something enchanting about the place that hahanap-hanapin mo sya every now and then. whenever i think of sagada, my whole being is clouded with excitement that i really can’t explain. the second time i was there, i’ve talked with a german, an irish and a french, and they all liked the place, they described it as ‘really beautiful’! one thing i’ve noticed, every year, hotels are sprouting everywhere, sana wag ma-saturate ung place..like baguio.

    Comment by riki — August 9, 2009 @ 1:30 pm

  21. I will recommend the George’s Inn for you to stay. But it will be a long walk from the plaza since it’s at the bottom. Guys if you are worrying about cash. In Sagada there is an ATM that you can make cash advances. What to bring to Sagada?? Sweaters and a lot of extra clothes since you will use them if you are not fond of cold places.

  26. 2 nights in sagada?

    Let’s see

    2700 for transportation
1000 for accommodations for two days
    1000 for all your meals
    1000 for all your tours

5700 for the two of you should be enough. 3000 each would be more than enough. :)
