Most (if not all) of the visitors to Sagada would brave the long drive or commute to experience the natural beauty of the town. Of course, most of these natural wonders would require walking and navigating through not-so-familiar hike trails and paths. Be a responsible and smart backpacker by researching about the sites that you want to visit. If that’s not possible, ask the other tourists and travelers that you encounter during your stay.
If you’re a first time traveler, you’re definitely going to benefit from having a tour guide that could give directions and pertinent information about the places you want to see.
To arrange a guided tour, make your way to the municipal hall near the intersection of Sagada’s three main roads. The tourism desk is to your left immediately upon entering the building. There, you would see the list of possible destinations and the standard rates for each.
All travelers are charged 10 php (~0.25 USD) as environmental fee.
There are two types of destinations in Sagada – one group consists of the sites that are in close proximity to the town center and is relatively accessible and the other is composed of destinations that require more than 2 hours of trekking to reach.
The ‘easier-to-reach’ destinations are commonly lumped under the Sightseeing package.
These sites include:
- Bokong Falls - also known as a Small Falls. Though not so majestic in height, the pool still a good thrill for those willing to jump from its natural 20-foot platform.
- Echo Valley – Despite being very close to the town center, Echo Valley exudes a very serene atmosphere. As the name suggests, the valley’s topography is perfect for propagating echoes.
- Kiltepan Viewpoint
- Underground River
- Demang Village
- Hanging Coffins
- Lumiang Burial Cave
- Lake Danum
To avail of the Sightseeing package, simply pick three of the sites on the list and your guide will be the one to plot out the most convenient route for your party. The rate is 400 pesos for a group of four people.
The second group consists of sites that would require more time and effort to reach. This includes:
These destinations would require at least half a day for you to enjoy. The rates can be seen on their respective pages (just follow the links).
Since some of these places may be too far too walk (e.g. Big Falls is about 3-4 hours away by foot), it would be advantageous to hire a van through the tourism desk as well. The standard rates are also prominently posted on the booth. :
See how easy it is? I hope this helps you maximize your time in Sagada.

We would like to cook our own food.
May I also ask if the water there is safe for kids ages 5 and up?

hi kei tan, visitor lang ako sa site na ito but just want to help. it is safe to go alone in sagada as i did last summer. this is one great way of knowing other tourist and sagadians… sagada people are nice and harmless.

Hi! Kudos for this very helpful site.
My friend and I are going to Sagada this coming July 16 and your site has been a great help. I’ve even tagged Tita Mary already
I just have a question though, which may sound a little nonsensical. What attire/gear do you suggest for us to wear? Are sneakers okay or flops will do? Jeans? Shorts? Coats? Jackets?
I hope you can enlighten me with my dilemma as this is our first Sagada trip!
Comment by melai — June 6, 2009 @ 3:28 pm
hi im planning to go to sagada but with limited time..ive been looking at your site and like the tour to:
* Bomod-ok Falls (Big Falls)
* Sumaguing Cave
* Mt. Ampacao
you mentioned about vehicle rental to go to these destinations how much would it cost, did you mean 600 per destination?or could we have it rented for all the 3 destinations?for how much?how far are they from each other..how many hours realistically would we be able to tour all these 3 destinations?
THANKS SO MUCH I DO HOPE YOU COULD HELP ME ON THESE..
Comment by anne — June 21, 2009 @ 4:24 pm
Anne, the Sumaguing Cave tour alone takes 3 hours inside the cave. But it’s only about 10 minutes drive from town. Bomod-ok falls is a bit further away but if you have a vehicle, i’m sure you can do the Sumaguing Cave tour in the morning then go to Bomod-ok falls in the afternoon. As for Mt. Ampacao, you probably have to trek to get there. You will need more time.
