How Many Days Should You Spend In Sagada?

This is probably the question that I get asked the most via e-mail. How  many days should one spend in Sagada to make the trip worth it? Of course, the answer would differ from person to person who has been there, but if you were to ask me - me being a generally laid-back guy who’d like to commune with nature from time to time — I’d say five days would be the  optimal time. Keep in mind though that you’ll be arriving at noon of Day  1 and you’ll be leaving at 1 PM of Day 5 at the latest. In essence, it’s just four days in Sagada.

Of course your schedule would depend on following factors:

  • Your Itinerary. If you want an action-packed weekend, then maybe a three-day stay would be enough  for you. If you’d rather have one strenuous activity and have the rest of the day off to relax in Sagada’s idyllic and serene atmosphere, a week would totally revitalize you.
  • Your budget. The hotels, inns and  hostels in Sagada are very affordable and each day you spend would be equivalent to a 200 (~5 USD) peso increase in your total expenses. Restaurant food is also quite expensive (it’s like eating out in Manila) so eating out  for a day could also cost you about 400-500 (~10-12 USD) pesos more.

People go to Sagada mainly for the caves and the falls. Those two activities could be feasibly fit into a whole day - but since the bus schedule effectively makes  you lose half of Day 1 already, the fastest you could get both done is by speeding through in less than 24 hours.

If you want to see more sites, climb the many peaks around the town or even go on side trips to Bontoc or  Banaue,  you may want to take more days off.

  7. If there is no typhoon directly affecting Sagada why not? My officemates just came from Sagada second week of May and according to them, Bangaan residents now require guide to tourists going to the big falls whether you are a first timer or not, plus they now charge P10.00 entrance fee per person.
