A visit to Sagada will not be complete without having a serving of yoghurt from where else - Yoghurt House! This place has long been a tourist-favorite mainly due to its great bohemian ambiance and of course, large servings of great tasting food.

Yoghurt House is just about a five-minute walk downhill from the town hall and bus station. They open at 7am and has a very filling and inviting breakfast menu that could definitely prepare you for the activities you have planned for the rest of the day.

Yoghurt House’s interiors are cozy and despite its small size, the space could still accommodate twenty-five people. Having that many people in such a packed area does make the place conducive for talking to other travelers and backpackers. Many people have made friends, split tour fees and even switched hotels thanks to people they’ve met through eating at Yoghurt House.

Visit Sagada recommends the Hiker’s Delight from the breakfast menu. It’s a crepe with a banana smothered with a generous amount of home-made yoghurt topped with strawberry preserves. It also comes with a piece of toast, two eggs cooked to your liking and coffee or tea. Yoghurt House serves breakfast til 10 AM. The meal might be a bit steep at 140 Php (~3.50 USD) but it’s very much worth it.

They run out of yoghurt some times but it’s good yoghurt so come back the next day or a bit later for your fix.

@Fritz:
I guess they’re better prepared now. I haven’t had the experience of running out of yoghurt. Hehe

the food is great indeed, the problem though is the staffs demeanor… one example, there was no beer that was served during that day yet it is still in the menu, the worst thing was that the waitress even asked us to just tell the management why.. i mean, customers always right, Right? and how about ordering a Java rice, instead they served us Java chicken Rice, I mean is there something wrong with the spelling or to the pronunciation. we ended up paying for something we havent ordered… sayang ang great Food.

hows the road getting to sagada from nueva viscaya? planning on going there this may but deciding which vehicle to bring depending on the roughness of the trip.
Comment by shirley — April 19, 2008 @ 11:06 am
Sorry to hear that Richard.
Shirley, I think you’d go via Dalton Pass. Take a 4×4 to be safe.
Comment by Benj — April 20, 2008 @ 6:57 pm
hi! i would really, really like to see sagada! but budget is too tight. i wanna bring my husband and 2 kids with me. how much should i spend for a 4 day stay?????
Comment by helen — April 28, 2008 @ 7:44 am
Shirley … I suggest going to Baguio then take the bus to Sagada if it is just Sagada you are interested in. Looong travel time from Sagada to Bontoc (1 hour) then from Bontoc to Manila (12 hours) via Nueva Vizcaya. Via Halsema Highway from Baguio, it will just be 5 hours.

[...] like to have a place where we can just gather around, sit down, have a cup of mountain tea with Yogurt House’s Hiker’s Delight on the sides. Obviously that’s not possible over the internet, [...]

We love Yoghurt House. Just be sure to order one cup of yoghurt for 3. It is really a big serving.

I’ve tried their Chicken and Pasta. It was actually good, just a little too expensive. I’ve also tried their Chicken with Sweet Sauce (forget how it was called) never liked it. Tried their Banana and Granola Yoghurt. It was delicious. The crew weren’t that warm though.
Comment by Laurence Nichol — May 6, 2008 @ 4:06 pm
I agree with Laurence on the crew - they are not warm. I ordered Pasta dish with vegetables and loved it! The banana yogurt has only few slices of banana but it still tasted good. The Baked Chicken with Toast and Pasta was worth its price, only that the chicken needs a little marinating.

Well… I thought “service” will be changed sa Yoghurt House…
I did not re-acted before… nung last visit ko nung Dec 2007. This second time na punta ko ng Sagada May 1-4, my friends go there to eat hinde na ko sumama kasi I don’t like the service. But I just dropped by there to talk to them for a while… pag pasok ko dun… hinde ko sinasadya natabig ko yung spoon nung waitress nung pag-open ko ng door… Aba! ang sama ng tingin sa kin, tiger look! Buti na lang hinde ako war freak that time… hehe
Buti na lang malamig sa Sagada…

ano ba yan, puro ata negative feedback ang nababasa kong comments sa yoghurt house. parang nakakadiscourage naman, kahit i-try lang, parang ayaw ko na rin tuloy. are they even seeing all these comments?
Comment by dino — May 23, 2008 @ 3:44 am
To be fair to Yoghurt House, I never had any bad experiences in the restaurant - just the occasional WTF THE SERVING IS THIS BIG?! moments.
Comment by Benj — May 23, 2008 @ 1:41 pm
I definitely agree with all those who commented negatively about the staff’s attitude. The food was great, no doubt about it. But if they don’t improve on their service, they’ll lose a lot of customers.
The members of the staff were not only the ones at fault. Actually, the owner herself was so “antipatika” to our group when we had our dinner there last April 14 this year. My friend just asked if the tuna mentioned in the menu is fresh or canned since it was not specified. The owner gave my friend a scowl & sarcastically said “this is Mt. Province..there’s no fish in Mt.Province!” Does she have to be rude to her fellow Filipinos? She can inform her in a nice way..like for instance, “we don’t have fresh fish now, we serve tuna from a can”. I also had a long time deciding what to order among the yoghurt flavors. She heaved a sigh, gave me a frown & replied in her acerbic tongue without patience.
The next day we had our lunch at Bana’s Cafe. Lo & behold! There’s fish in Mt. Province. We had fresh fish for lunch & the crew was so accommodating & warm to us. We will surely go back to Bana’s Café next time. As for the Yoghurt House, even if I think about their delicious food, I’m not enticed to go back because of the owner’s rude attitude to us. Hope she’ll change her ways.

Comment ko po sa bad service na experience nyo….been to Sagada so many times i cant even count how many times but i’ve never seen that bad service at Yoghurt House. What i usually see are highly urban characters (local tourists) that usually thinks that they should be served as to their liking. Since i get to go there very often i feel that the comfort of all we have here in Manila does not apply in Sagada. From what i heard, tourism is not their major priority since this usually disturb their quiet haven. Most foreigners are there to eat and dont even bother to comment on the resto’s lapses, maybe bcoz you can actually see that they are understaffed.
BEING A TOURIST MOST OF THE TIME, I LEARNED THAT BEING ONE SHOULD BE, BEING ONE OF THEM AND WHAT YOU HAVE AND WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN DOESNT REALLY MATTER AT ALL.
Comment by Anna A. — June 2, 2008 @ 8:30 am
anna a,
you hit it right.
local tourists are actually being frowned upon by the business people, that is because they expect too much and demand sooo much. SAGADA stayed like it was before and loved as is by foreign and local backpackers. SAGADA is not going to change adversely for everyone’s satisfaction. Though there are new establishments that are adjusting to these new market.
Yughurt haws caters more to the foreign clientele and can survive without the local toorich moolah.

Anitpatika talaga yung taga yoghurt house, anna a. Iam an Igorot just like the peopel in sagada pero i have never experienced sa ibang place asa Sagada nag na experience ko sa Yoghurt house. I went there for 8 times already ganun parin yung tauhan sa Yoguhrt house walang galang. Sa ibang reto like Marferree mabait sila and very warm…

oh…how sad…we’re planning to visit sagada next week and just reading about the poor service in yoghurt house makes me think twice if we should go there…sayang naman the food looks promising but with bad customer service reputation, i’m not really sure though if it’s all worth it…ganun pa din ba?
Comment by libay — October 2, 2008 @ 7:13 pm
Libay, may be you should give it a try…i havent experienced it before…
Comment by Anna A. — October 3, 2008 @ 8:22 am
the yoghurt house and all the establiments’ primary targets in sagada are the tourists. so if they give really bad service, most likely, people will stop eating there. kahit anong sarap ng pagkain, kung puro mga nakasimangot ang nasa paligid mo, nakakawalang ganang kumain. so the yoghurt house has to improve with their people skills before it’s too late. miss ko pa naman yung banana/strawberry/granola yoghurt nila.
Comment by paolo marquez — October 5, 2008 @ 5:45 pm
oi oi oi! anong kaguluhan to? puntahan na lang natin ang sagada, wag na tayo magfocus sa mga bad side na yan. baka pagod na din ang staff. as travelers, tayo dapat ang nag-aadjust. sino pupunta dun at the end of the month? hati tayo sa tour expenses? *wink*wink*

Hi Anna A….YES!!! will still definitely give Yoghurt House a visit this week when we go there…I’m so excited about it…actually, my friend just went there last week and was saying that the food was really great and they have BIIIG servings! sulit for the price and they did not have any bad experience after all…anyway, good or bad…i’m looking forward to visiting yoghurt house

I’m back from sagada and it was really glorious! rough road, very looong trip…so worth it! nothing beats good food, good company, nice place…i live to breathe in sagada. and as promised, we visited yoghurt house…TWICE! the price=practical, big serving=good for two…and just to be fair, the people there weren’t rude to us or anything close to it…they were just really quiet…but our experience there was nice…it just fits perfectly in our 3D/2N stay…wish we could stay longer, Sagada is just really amazing…nice to wake up with that kind of view and weather…haaaay
P.S. love youghurt house’s roasted eggplant with basil pasta…nice
Comment by Libay — October 15, 2008 @ 11:48 pm
bakit walang nagppost kung how much yung range ng breakfast? reviews sa location and sa mismong establishment. or if they have contact numbers?

I’ve been to Yoghurt many times and I believe me their food were great and I just wanna go back there just to feed my hunger….The staff are accomodating and kind,,,I believe one wound not act in a rude way if your act is not…..we know all the “Do unto others what you want others do to You!” or maybe thats what we call personal difference and culture shock….so just dont be too much judgemental and bias….just go and eat and mind your own business and the world will be happy to live in! Advance Merry Christmas to all…Prices varies so just go and eat.

wala akong masabi sa food sa yoghurt napakasarap! the staff are amiable! just dropby and try.
Comment by tristan — October 22, 2008 @ 10:17 am
the food ranges from PHP120 - 180 per order. sa yoghurt house, w/o drinks. pero halos pang-dalawa naman ang 1 order. try nyo rin ang persimon bamboo grill. ok din ang serving & ok din ang service.
Comment by jojo — October 24, 2008 @ 11:03 am
Every time we visit the place,,we certainly enjoy their good food…the price is worth it with their savory delecious food! Have some try when you visit sagada….

I DO AGREE WITH THE POSITIVE COMMENTS ABOUT YOGURT HOUSE COZ THE FOODS ARE GREAT AND THE STAFF ARE NICE, AS THE GOLDEN RULES SAY”DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT U WANT OTHERS DO UNTO YOU” SO THOSE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING BAD MEMORIES YOU ARE THAT DEMANDING AND BAD GUYS,IT IS SEEN ON HOW U COMMENT ON OTHERS BEHAVIOR WITHOUT SEEING URSELF……. YOGURT HOUSE IS A NICE PLACE TO TRY WHEN COMING AT SAGADA! JUST COME AND TRY!
Comment by Kim — October 26, 2008 @ 11:24 am
For those who are commentng negatively about Y.house, please stay in Sagada for a while so you would know why you are very wrong at how you reacted previously. People in Sagada are not used to how we do it in Manila, well i think not only in Sagada, i think this applies to other places too. When in Sagada, do what the Sagadians do.
Comment by Anna A. — October 28, 2008 @ 10:33 am
let’s just admit it, there is no more room for improvement for yoghurt house. even people from there do not admit that they are lacking something. the thing is, 50% of all these comments are quite negative. it’s really bad for the business. customer makes the business run. you give bad service and less people will go there. anna, just be nice to your customers, okay?
Comment by dennis avellano — October 28, 2008 @ 1:52 pm
i just find these comments weird. isn’t it weird that these comments were made at the same time of the day? all these were posted between 10am and 11am? tapos every other day pa and comment, and yung iba naman, minutes lang ang difference on the time they were posted. would it be possible that the comments posted by RIZ, TRISTAN, JOJO, KARLA, KIM, and ANNA A, were just posted by the same person?

now my point is and i will say it again, yoghurt house and all the other establishments in sagada are depending to the tourists. give us better service, before it’s too late.

Benj here - ya know, the owner and author of this site.
I haven’t had any bad experience with Yoghurt House. None of my friends have reported any untoward incidents as well.
Having yoghurt in YH is one of the things that I look forward to the most whenever I go to Sagada. The staff is also quite nice and accommodating. We requested for breakfast during dinner service and they were more than willing to honor our special request. :p
I love Yoghurt House.
The people who posted comments had different IP adresses. I dunno how posting at the same time could lead someone to conclude that they were one and the same person. LOL

masarap naman ang food nila (yung nasubukan na namin ha). kaya lang di sila gaanong marunong ngumiti. kumain na lang kami sa strawberry fastfood sa taas the following day. very affordable at warm ang service.

Just got back last night from Sagada. When I read the negative comments about Yoghurt house, my friends and I got curious and decided to have one of our meals there… that was a late lunch after a trek to the big falls. Tired, cold (it was drizzling in Sagada for the most part of the day), and hungry, we ordered for the set meal for 4, costing 1.1k. We tried to keep mum as much as possible, asking no questions, avoiding not to offend them, kasi nga suplado “daw” sila sa mga locals, lalo na pag dami tanong. Aba, nakarinig pa kami from the male attendant. Something to the effect na he was asking us but we didn’t answer outright. Eh di siya narinig eh! Kainit ng ulo! Pero okay lang kung masarap food…wait, the soup tasted yummy, kasi gutom kami hehehe, but come chopsuey at baked chix, both were a disappointment. Wala sahog chopsuey, pinalasa lang ng cubes or vetsin siguro, baked chixtuyot…mukhang matagal na frozen and tasted dry, rubbery. Worst, puro puwet ng chix ang part na ni-serve. Fruit yoghurt..hmmm..perfect with banana, mapait ung apple na kasama. But the mashed potato was a real treat. Masarap! So that’s our experience! Soup and mashed potato for 1.1k. Paglabas namin, wala ka maririnig na thank you…dedma. Ok, fine. Sana mabasa ng mga taga Yoghurt House ito or i-relay ng administator, and Mgt start improving on service to the locals. Kung hinde, little by little, mawawalan sila ng customer na di nila mamamalayan, kasi ung “delicious food advantage” nila, nawawala na din. I will never eat there again. Try nyo na lang Cafe St. Joe, sa St. Joseph’s Inn. Nice ambiance, setting, and cheap.
