Travel: Going to Sagada From Bontoc

Bontoc is the capital of Mountain Province. It is about 12 hours from Manila and a mere 45 minutes from Sagada. Compared to Baguio, there are definitely less buses going to Bontoc.

  9. anong magandang route? Sagada Via Banaue, Sagada From Bontoc or Sagada From Baguio?

    Comment by balatuba — March 24, 2008 @ 11:27 pm

  10. I recommend VIA BAGUIO. Gareth recommends VIA BONTOC.

    Comment by Benj — March 24, 2008 @ 11:31 pm

  11. I prefer Baguio route too ü

    Comment by Angel — March 25, 2008 @ 8:43 am

  12. Hi Angel/Benj! What’s the route with the (1) best sceneries (2) best value (3) best schedules :)

Btw, angel, thanks for the document you sent.

    Comment by Jools — March 29, 2008 @ 3:44 pm

  13. 1. Best scenery - It’s a close call, but Banaue has a more dramatic route. The one through Bontoc and Baguio aren’t that bad either.

    2. Value? They’re almost the same - either of the three would cost 600-700 pesos.

    3. Schedules? Baguio baguio baguio

    Comment by Benj — March 29, 2008 @ 3:47 pm

  14. Best scenery - Yep Banaue route has the best sceneries, but I don’t prefer this route because I am not comfortable with the bus.

  15. Hi Benj!

U have only posted here the schedule of transpo going to Sagada via Banaue/Bontoc. Does the trip back to Manila via that route follow the same sched? We are finalizing our itinerary if it could be possible for us to take that route and still catch our 230pm flight back to Negros on May 6. We will be in Sagada on May 3 and plan to leave in the morning of May 5. Do u think it is workable? Thanks

    Comment by Ching — April 17, 2008 @ 1:59 pm

  16. Workable, YES! If you leave Sagada in the morning of May 5, say 8AM, you will be at Bontoc by 9AM, then catch a bus in the Bontoc Municipal hall to Banaue, approximately you will arrive at Banaue by lunch time, then reserve your seats in AutoBus Terminal for their Manila trip that day (it is important to reserve your seats or you will be forced to stay in Banaue overnight), the bus to Manila leaves Banaue by 5 PM, so you still have some time to go to nearby Rice Terraces like the one in Bangaan, just rent a tricycle for P700.00. By 4:30 PM, you should be back to the AutoBus Terminal for the 5PM Bus to Manila. You will reach Manila by 5 AM of May 6.

That were exactly what we did during our first trip to Sagada.

  17. Thank you Angel! I really appreciate the reply. We look forward to lots of fun and adventure on this upcoming trip…. and also lots of “aches” from the long trip. :) Anyway, we still have the whole morning to have some massage before flying back to Negros.

    Comment by Ching — April 21, 2008 @ 3:22 pm

  18. Hi Angel!

I have follow-up questions. How many people can the tricycle accommodate? There are 6 of us in the group. And how about a tourist guide? Do we need to have 1? And how much is the fee?

    Thanks a lot.

    Comment by Ching — April 21, 2008 @ 3:36 pm

  19. Hi Ching, the tricycle can fit up to four person (without baggage) but I suggest you split into two groups, since you have to bring your stuff while on tour. No need for a tour guide, the trike driver can act as one. :)

    Comment by Angel — April 22, 2008 @ 11:35 pm

  20. Bring our stuff while on tour? Uggghhhh! Can’t we leave our stuff in the bus terminal? That’s what we did when we had our Ilocos trip last year. Iniwan namin sa Vigan bus terminal ang mga dala namin so we can tour Vigan minus our stuffs. I cant imagine bringing along our stuffs with us during the tour. Cgurado, punong-puno ang tricycle. Hehehe. Galing na kasi kami nyan ng Baguio where we will be attending a 4-day convention. In as much as we want to travel light, it wont be possible. There would be laptops, lots of seminar materials and the most requested strawberry jam na pasalubong (maybe i should forget this one and just buy Banaue-made pasalubong instead).

Btw, for how many hours is the P700 rent for tricycle? Is that the usual charge doon? May kamahalan sya for a tricycle.

    Comment by Ching — April 23, 2008 @ 10:39 am

  21. The terminal in Banaue is an open area, no baggage counter not even a guard, well you can leave your stuff there but be sure to find someone who will look at it, or you may try leaving it in the nearby stores/restos.

About the trike rate, try to haggle, but I believe that is their usual charge for 4 to hour 5 trike tour. Take note, “bumpy” trike tour.

  26. Hi Guys!

I just got back from our “survivor” trip. Survivor because we survived the trip from Baguio to Sagada then to Bontoc and finally, Banaue (not to mention that before going up to Baguio, we explored Bicol region first).

The survivor trip was really full of fun and adventure. From the travel time to just sightseeing activities. We (my 2 sis and friend) never really expect that the way going to Sagada is full of “U” turns. We call it U-turn because the bus literally takes a U turn, only that papunta sa taas ng bundok.. Hehehe..

    Comment by Ching — May 7, 2008 @ 3:08 pm

  27. Hi Ching, Yeah. I can relate. I threw up because of those sharp turns. hehe

    Comment by Benj — May 8, 2008 @ 1:14 pm

  28. Hi Angel!

You call the trike tour in Banaue rice terraces a “bumpy” ride; my friend called it the “hell-ish” ride she ever had! We only went to the Bangaan rice terraces as we dont have enough time to go to Batad. It was raining when we were there so the trip was a little bit difficult. The trike had a flat tire, good thing was we were already on our way back. But it’s all worth it!!! The view are all breathtaking.

Btw, pweding mag-iwan ng mga baggage sa store where the tickets for Florida Bus are sold.

  29. Hi Guys, me and my friends are planning to go to sagada. Please advise naman po if OK lang magdala ng car? I mean, hindi ba hassle (or dangerous) if may dala kami car? First time kasi kami punta dun and we’ll take Baguio-to-Sagada route. Thanks.

  30. Hi,

Me and my friends are going to Sagada this thursday. We are planning to take the Banaue Route first and then the Baguio route in going home. Problem is, we are from Pampanga. Do u have any suggestion on how we could take a bus going to banaue from here. Your responses will really help us prepare. Thanks

  35. Hi, my family and i are planing on traveling from Manila to Sagada via Halsema Hway before new year bringing our two cars. Is it possible to drive there with a non 4×4 wheel? From Sagada, we plan to go down via Banaue (Mt Polis Hway) towards Pagudpud via the main National Road passing Tuguegarao(the long way). We noticed that there is a road from Bontoc to Pagudpud via Tabuk (shorter way) but not sure if that road is good for travel with our car. Can anyone please give us some info. Maraming salamat po.

  36. My family and i are planing to visit Sagada using our cars (which are not 4×4)via Halsema Hway. Is this possible or will we struggle so much? We plan to descend via Banaue (on Mt Polis Hway) and on to Pagudpud via Tuguegarao (national road). We noticed there is a short cut from Bontoc to Pagudpud via Tabuk but not sure if the road is ok for our cars. One is a Revo and the other is Lancer. Can anyone please give us some info. Maraming salamat po.
